Class
Descriptions (all classes taught "on
1")
Beginning 1 Salsa:
If you've never danced salsa or you are interested in brushing
up on your basics (which we could all use every now and then),
this is the class for you. We'll explain the beat of salsa music,
open and closed positions of salsa, frame, lead and follow language,
and we'll break down the basic step, cucaracha, cumbia, and the
diamond step. Then we'll work on the ladies' inside and outside
turn, guys' inside turn, basic turn patterns, and the cross body
lead. After a few lessons, you'll be ready to hit the dance floor
with your set of moves. Then it's up to you to practice, practice,
practice!!
Beginning
2 Salsa:
Once you've got the basics down, it's time for you to move on
to the next level. We'll introduce the advanced basic (progressive
basic) and simple footwork patterns. We'll start with the cross
body lead with an inside turn and outside turn, then we'll work
on the open break with a cross body lead and outside turn. The
last combination will be a hammerlock, then with an open break
cross body lead.
Intermediate
1 Salsa:
In order for you to fully understand our intermediate steps and
patterns, you should understand the rhythm of salsa music (knowing
how to count to the music is helpful, too). You should be able
to socially dance the Beginning 1 and 2 moves before moving on
to this class. The patterns taught in this class will vary from
month to month. You will learn new moves combining what you've
learned from the hammerlock, open break, cross body lead, and
more. Gemini is constantly working on new moves, so you'll never
get bored in this class!
Intermediate
2 Salsa: Now
you're ready to get hard core!! This class will work on more complicated
moves, including intricate footwork with and without your partner.
Gemini is known for their complex arm movements, so don't be afraid
to get close to your partner.
Intermediate/
Advanced Salsa:
(not
currently in session)
If
you make it this far, you will learn complex combinations that
will incorporate dips and tricks (moves in the air and on the
floor) to mix excitement into your dancing! All of our moves will
be taught using proper safety and technique.
Body
Control and Isolations:
(not
currently in session)
In
this class, you will learn how to break down the movements you
use when dancing salsa, from head to toe. This class is open to
all levels of dancers, both leads and follows. We will concentrate
on exercises to work on balance and control for better turns.
Don't miss this class because Gemini has many years of experience
with breakdance and body movement.
Ladies
Styling:
This
class will touch on several aspects of styling. After a few lessons,
you will have a better idea of how to hold your body while dancing,
where to put those arms, how to toss your head, and what to do
with your feet when your partner lets you shine. After all, he's
the frame and YOU are the picture - so we'll work on being sexy!
You should know at least the basic salsa step, cross body lead,
and how to do a basic turn to fully take advantage of this class.

Ladies Styling Performance class (not
currently in session)
(for intermediate/advanced salseras): If you're ready to shine
on the dance floor and you're interested in performing, than this
class is a good fit for you. Jenny will teach an intermediate/advanced
level all-ladies routine over the course of two months. At the
end of the session, the class will perform the routine at a local
venue. Previous performance class experience might be helpful,
but is not necessary. You should fully understand how to count
shines to music, as this will be the emphasis of the routine since
there is no partner dancing involved.
