People that wish to compete and do not reside in the NW need to just send their names, company name and where they are from and show-up for the semi-final rounds. They will not need to pass the qualifying rounds.

All ages welcome for both nights.
Under 18 years, only a $10 cover for both nights

*Competitors & Judges must be at the Tiffany Center at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 13th, 2008 for a meeting & a drawing to determine the competitors' order, or they will be automatically disqualified.

*Whichever competitors make it to the final round must present themselves at the Tiffany Center on Saturday, June 14th, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. for a meeting & a drawing to determine the competitors' order, or they will be automatically disqualified.

Qualifying Rounds 2008

Competitors may bring their own music (no longer than 2 minutes routine for all Divisions) or dance free style (only for Amateur & Professional). This round you will be judged by Judges only. One or two couples from each qualifying round location will advance to the semi-final and final rounds. If you pass the qualifying round, you will advance to the semi-final round Friday, June 13th, 2008. If you make it to the final round, both of your point totals from Friday and Saturday night will be added together and will result in your final score for first, second and third places for all categories (Amateur, Professional & Team Division).

Amateur Winners: First place winners will receive a: full pass, hotel accommodations, opportunity to perform at the Puerto Rico Hustle & Salsa Congress, as well as a special trophy. First place winners

Team Division Winners: First place winners will receive a : all-paid hotel accommodations, opportunity to Represent Portland at the ESPN & Walt Disney World Resort, as well as a special trophy. First place winners
Second and Third place winners will receive a special trophy.

Professional Winners: First place winners will receive a : all-paid hotel, round trip airfare from Portland to Orlando, Florida, represent Portland at the ESPN & Walt Disney World ResortWorld Salsa Championships in 2008, as well as receive a special trophy. First place winners

RULES
Semi-Finals & Finals June 13th-14th, 2008
@ The Tiffany Center

*It is expected that all judges will be neutral, fair and consistent in their evaluations of the performances even if you personally know the competitors.*
Rehearsals will be held from 4-6 p.m. on both days.

Timing: 1 – 40 points _________
Be aware that you may look great and do some great steps and even do moves that the crowd will love, but if your timing is not consistent, your will be deducted points.

Appearance (Includes Costumes) 1 – 10 points _________
We strongly suggest tasteful, colorful, matching costumes.

Style: 1-10 points ________
You will also be judged in your styling technique and how it blends with the routine and music. Hands, movements, how graceful and how clean certain moves are done will all be judges in this category.

Partnering: 1 – 10 points __________
You will be judged on how well you and your partner or team execute your routine and that you are a balanced couple or team in the showmanship of your choreography. Leading and Following is what this category is all about.

Choreography: 1 – 10 points _________
You will be judged on your choreography and its interpretation with your routine and music. We will judge the originality of your choreography. In this category we are also looking at your creativity and the level of difficulty of your choreography and how clean it is presented.

Overall Presentation: 1 – 10 points _________
You will be judged by your overall presentation. The judges will be looking at all of the categories in general. They will also be watching your confidence on stage. Contestants will be judged from the moment they are on the dance floor until the moment they leave the stage.

Points for Audience Reaction 1 – 10 points _________
The judges upon their own discretion can decide to give 1 – 10 points to the overall score depending on if they feel the audience reaction is sincere.

 

Semi-Final Round - June 13th, 2008 in Portland, OR, USA
You must be at the Tiffany Center at 8:00 p.m. to draw your number for what order you will compete. You will be disqualified if your music is longer than 2 minutes. We will choose four to five couples for the finals (amateur and professional). You will forfeit the right to compete if you are not present at the time of the drawing.

Final Round - June 14th, 2008 in Portland, OR, USA
You must be at the Tiffany Center at 8:00 p.m. to draw your number for what order you will compete. You will be disqualified if your music is longer than 2 minutes. You will forfeit the right to compete if you are not present at the time of the drawing. Point totals from Friday and Saturday night will be added together and will result in your final score for first, second and third places in both categories (amateur and professional).


Competitors must bring their own music (2 CDs) and the routine must be no longer than 2 minutes. You will be disqualified if your music is longer than 2 minutes for the semi-finals on Friday, June 13th, 2008 and the finals Saturday, June 14th, 2008.

Competitors agree and understand that any photos or videos taken of them at any point during the nights of the competitions (from qualifying round, or the semi-finals or finals) may be used in media produced by Gemini. Furthermore, they understand that they will not receive any compensation for the use of photos or video that they appear in.
